On the Trace Formulae in Operator Theory

One has the Krein's trace formula (1960's) for the trace of the difference of a function of two self-adjoint operators, which differ by a trace-class operator, and then one has the more recent (late 1970-1980) Helton-Howe-Carey-Pincus formula for the trace of the commutator between a function of a pure hyponormal operator T and another of T*-- both are quite beautiful formulae. Here a proof will be given to show that the second one (in its Cartesian form) is a consequence of the first.

Noncommutative Rational Functions in Free Probability

Noncommutative rational functions play a role in free probability theory. One wants to understand the distribution of a selfadjoint noncommutative polynomial $P = p(x_1,\ldots,x_n)$ as an operator in some noncommutative probability space. For nonlinear polynomials one can use its linear representation. Although there are various characterizations for a minimal representation, algorithms for constructing one are rare. I will give an overview hot to describe rational functions and how to reduce a given representation to a minimal one.

Stabilne rozkady prawdopodobienstwa typu Levy

Around Property (T) and Haagerup property for quantum groups - a global point of view

Haagerup property and Kazhdan's Property (T), both in the classical and quantum setting, can be viewed as strong negations of each other, related to the representation theory of a given (quantum) group. I will discuss these two concepts, focusing on the approach via `typical' representations. The talk will be based on the work in progress with M.Daws and S.White.

Sidon sets for compact quantum groups

In this talk I will present several recent results on Sidon sets for (quantum) groups. I will establish the equivalence between several different characterizations of Sidon sets for compact quantum groups, and in particular prove that in a discrete group the notions of Sidon sets and strong Sidon sets in the sense of Picardello coincide. I will also prove that any Sidon set for a compact quantum group is a \Lambda(p)-set for a finite p, generalizing previous results of Blendek and Michalicek. Some basic properties of central lacunarity will be also discussed - I will show that in the contrast  to the classical SU(2) case one can  exhibit a central \Lambda(4)-set for the quantum group SU_q(2). Finally on the other hand I will also prove that the Drinfeld-Jimbo deformations of simply connected compact semi-simple Lie groups (so for example SU_q(2)) do not admit infinite Sidon sets.

q-Convolution, its impossibility and possibility

The q-Fock space was introduced by Bożejko and Speicher in 1991. Some authors studied about the notion q-convolution for probability measures that should be in the q-Deformed Probability corresponding to the q-Focks space (Nica, Anshelevich, …). They constructed their q-convolutions but their q-convolutions are not positivity preserving. Besides Leeuwen and Maassen proved the no-go theorem for the existence of q-convolution in 1996. Although there is this no-go theorem, we constructed a notion of q-convolution that is positive. Of course this is possible because the our requirements for the notion of q-convolution is different from those of Leeuwen-Maassen. Our notion of q-convolution is, in some sense, approximate notion for the `true' q-convolution that is not exists. Also our q-convolution is, in some sense, consistent with the Anshelevich q-convolution.

A remark on Some Generalized Gaussian Process

We give an example of special generalized Gaussian process B_{p}, p\in (0,1), such that for p=1 we get classical Bose Gaussian field and for p=0 we obtain very interesting process related to Boolean Gaussian process. That process is related with function t_{p} on 2- partitions done as follows: t_{p} (V) = p ^{n-s(V)}, where s(V) =card{ k < n+1: {k, 2n-k+1} is a block of 2-partition V in {1,2,...,2n}}. That will be also presented connections with generalized Laguerre polynomials. (The paper with Wojciech Bożejko and Karol Penson.)

Zerowa korelacja a niekomutatywna niezależność

Niech X i Y będą klasycznymi zmiennymi losowymi.

Operator Theory of Evolution Equations versus Combinatorics

We shall present some considerations relevant to the theory of partial differential equations with space and time variables. The equations are linear in time derivative and involve rather general differential operators for space variables. We shall consider exact treatment of the one-dimensional space with several differential operators of increasing complexity. We will make explicit the natural appearance of two-variable generalizations of Hermite and Laguerre polynomials conceived as tools to solve the Cauchy problem for the above equations. The lacunary generating functions of Laguerre polynomials prove their utility in the treatment of the Cauchy problem. It will be argued that the generating functions of many combinatorial structures can be studied along these lines. We shall outline the search for the so called scaling solutions (known as the so-called Glaisher-type formulas) which conserve their functional form under the time evolution. In this context a particular role is played by the Lévy stable functions which intervene in higher order heat-type equations.

One to one correspondence between generating functionals and cocycles on quantum groups in the presence of symmetry

Generating functionals are important from the view point of quantum probability (they are generators of Lévy processes on quantum groups) as well as geometric group theory (the Haagerup property of a discrete group can be characterised via the existence of a special type of generating functionals). It was shown by M. Schürmann that to a given generating functional one can canonically associate a cocycle. This brings up the question whether this association is bijective. Although there are certain quantum groups for which such bijectivity holds, one can also give counter-examples. The aim of this talk is to show that the bijectivity question has the affirmative answer if we further assume a certain symmetry in the picture. We will also show how our set-up accommodates some known examples. (Based on joint work with Adam Skalski, Uwe Franz and Anna W. Kula.)
