The mini-course will cover the following main topics: an introduction to the classical umbral calculus on the real line, nuclear and co-nuclear
spaces, polynomials on a co-nuclear space, formal tensor power series, shift-invariant operators, monic polynomial sequences on a co-nuclear
space, equivalent characterizations of a polynomial sequence of binomial type, lifting of polynomials of binomial type from the real line to a
co-nuclear space with examples, Sheffer polynomial sequences on a co-nuclear space, lifting of Sheffer polynomials from the real line to a
co-nuclear space, orthogonal Sheffer polynomials and the Mecke theorem, orthogonal Sheffer polynomials on a co-nuclear space.
